Hello everyone, welcome to Halo Spotlight. The place where Halo community creations are put in the spotlight and shown off to the world. This Machinima Highlight piece features a special Halo 3 Machinima named ‘The 500 Subscriber Special (Halo 3 Machinima) Ft. EVERYONE’.
This Machinima was a large collaboration project released on the Serpent Studios YouTube Channel. It aired earlier in the year on April 23rd 2025.
We were lucky enough to speak to SerpentMonkey on X, getting a behind the scenes insight on what went into creating this Halo 3 Machinima. First though, please watch and enjoy their Machinima below:
Now we’ve all had time to enjoy the Machinima, it’s time to dive into what went into creating it. The Machinima has an incredibly large cast, both of characters, and producers. For those on X (Twitter), you can find the following: @NateSpidey18_YT, @blazingb00mrang, @sypsart, @spitebox, @jaxbeetle, @IccrioVA, @TheOneZeroBoi03, @TheOneZeroBoi03, @OfflineVA and @ItsTheKro.
That’s not all though. There are those without X (Twitter) that we wouldn’t want to miss out. You can find the following over on YouTube: @realmomentstudios, @sterbenstudios @spiteboxstudios, @highcouncilmedia, @ladyred_, @blazingb00mrang, @iccrioerykkyle, @natespidey18 and @theonezeroboi8040.

Given the size of the cast and producers, there was no possibility to speak to them all. Thankfully SerpentMonkey was willing to give some background on the project.
We asked SerpentMonkey to give us a description of the project, how everyone came together and some background on the creation process. Below you can find their incredible insight on how this project came to be.
The 500 Special is a giant celebration of not just the channel but the machinima community as a whole. How thankful we truly are for this community. The video itself has myself frustrated about a recent video not going to plan. The rest of the Serpent Crew ponder on this, while that’s happening the channel reaches 500 subscribers.
Andrew comes in quickly and warns the crew about what happened last time a milestone was achieved but it’s too late. Zach, who started the chaos before, returns and starts the chaos again. Various battles are shown with special appearances from the community and characters from the channel!

Behind the scenes, oh boy, this was an experience for sure. Let’s start with the fun part. The major battles you see in the video are from a special game night we hosted! We gathered people from the community and even encouraged them to throw in their custom spartans, their own machinima characters and or something random! We wanted to give people a chance to put themselves in the video.
We played a lot of custom games that night and multiple rounds to ensure we had gotten as much footage as possible. What is shown is honestly just a third of what was filmed, there were a few maps we did clips on that never saw the light of day. It was an amazing night and I wish I had recorded the game chatter that night.

As far as filming the actual scenes themselves whether the cameos or the characters talking. We filmed a lot…and I mean a lot. The talking scenes were easy, we’ve gotten used to it, however we filmed a handful of different versions of the cameo scenes.
I believe we filmed each cameo 3 times in different maps just because we wanted the game night clips to match the talking clips. It was a hard balance because some worked well with others in a nice blend and some just didn’t click.

Cameos! I’ve never been more lucky by somehow managing to get so many peers I look up to greatly and friends all together in one big video. To me, it was never about “oh my god let’s get so and so it’ll get a lot of views”, it was about me fan girling about seeing my favorite people together. Like C’mon Crash talking and interacting with Spitebox? That’s cool as hell. It also gave us an opportunity to have some funny interactions that could never happen normally.
One of my favorite jokes is when one of my characters, Chris, is talking to CastScarab9. To kinda explain the joke, NateSpidey while voicing for IMPACT also works on the upcoming machinima Odyssey Part 2. Cast himself appears and confuses Chris for Nate. It also allowed me to shout out Odyssey Part 2, two birds one stone! I wanted to push everyone to expand their machinima library and give attention to the wider community as a whole.
It’s really heartwarming to see such passion go into a Halo Machinima. Halo 3 continues to be an excellent choice for Machinima, even 18 years later. A special thank you to SerpentMonkey for providing such an in depth behind the scenes look at what went into this Machinima. If after reading this piece, you’d like to rewatch the Machinima with extra context, we’ve posted it again below for a 2nd viewing experience.
